Perfect Creature – definitely not a typical vampire movie

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Last night watched a movie that could be referred to as a vampire movie called Perfect Creatures.  In this movie, vampires and people have learned how to live and coexist together in an alternate reality or alternate universe of a world or planet similar to Earth.  During a cloning experiment that happen in about the 17th century someone devised a way to create a perfect creature that just happen to be a vampire as we know them on Earth.  The vampires essentially became something called the brotherhood and set themselves up for were set up by the people of Earth something of a Catholic church official that helps people guide their way through life.

This actress, Saffron Burrows, provided an excellent performance as the human police officer helping to trap the renegade vampire.  Plus, she’s hot!  I doubt you’ll catch her taking hydroxycut.

Things become a bit problematic for this planet win one of those brothers were vampires becomes infected with a blood virus that essentially turns them into a crazed killer.  This leads into something of a murder mystery/chase to attempt to stop this vampire from infecting regular people as well as other vampires with the same sickness that made him crazy and ultimately leads to the downfall of this particular civilization.  Nonetheless this particular movie with really provides an interesting take on the overworked notion of what a vampire might be and provides a unique plot construct for it.  And that if you like vampire movies this is definitely going to be a good must-see movie.  There’s actually some elements that are similar to I Am Legend with Will Smith but it is definitely different enough that not everyone will make the connection.

Cast: Saffron Burrows, Dougray Scott, Leo Gregory
Director: Glenn Standring

Knocked Up

This week I spent a little bit of time getting caught up on movies.  I’ve been writing and doing quite a bit of work online but I haven’t had a chance really to enjoy myself and watch too many shows movies rated TV for that matter.

Definitely a funny movie, but might make you think twice about driving in California or Vegas for that matter, better check out some tight policies for
California auto insurance.

That formula lead to a good case of writer’s block, and to break the writers block cycle I typically need to consume some content.  So I was watching a lot of movies in getting caught up in one of the movies I watched was Knocked Up.

The movie was extremely funny and very well put together and not quite half as childish as I expected it to be.

Now you can probably buy this movie rented on DVD or even buy it, but I watched it on HBO where it’s basically free for me.  I’ve got a stack of DVD movies must be a mile high I swear never watch any of them very often but if it comes on cable I’ll watch it even if I stand before.

Anyway this movie is about a guy who just happens to get extra lucky at a nightclub and pick up a hot chick take her home and have sex with her.  Unfortunately for both of them, she gets pregnant and that triggers an unexpected relationship both of them.  From that point forward is all about what it’s like to be pregnant have a baby and the weird social dynamics that they have as an unlikely couple.
Through this journey it takes them on trips back to nightclubs, to Las Vegas and Cirque de Soleil on mushrooms and many other strange escapades of life and growth.

Possibly even stranger for me, this movie features a guy that’s trying to build an online business, although he’s not doing a very good job of it, and the concepts of pregnancy and birth.  I watched this movie with my mother-in-law who happens to be a nurse midwife, and it was kind of funny to watch a movie, a comedy, that poked fun at both of our professions.
